....draw Graffiti pictures in combination with Transformers characters.

My second Art-Tutorial.:)
This time it is about drawing Graffiti pictures in combination with Transformers characters. But you can also use this tutorial just for Graffiti pictures without the Transformers aspect.

Okay, first of all you need to know what you need for the beginning.

You need:
  • A white sheet of paper. (I would advise you to use an DIN A3 sheet of paper, because you will need the whole sheet for your picture.)
  • An H or HB pencil.
  • An ereaser.
  • A ruler. (It should be 30 cenimeters long)
And especially, you will need very much time and very much patience.;)

Well, that shall be enough of that for the moment. So, let´s start.

1.Step:
At first you are drawing you character, wich you have chosen before. Don´t draw the character too big or too small and it shouldn´t be drawn over the whole sheet. You also need place for the graffiti letters, so you should chose a place for you character, wich is more at one side of the paper. So you have place for the letters at the other side of the paper.
When you have finished the lineart of your character, you draw thin lines next to the character. This lines are for your letters. It depends on how much words you have. In this picture, I´ve three words. So I draw three lines. Be sure, that the lines are straight unless you want your letters to be crooked.

2.Step:
Before you start with the outlines of your letters now, you should write the words with thin lines on your lines. So you can be sure, that you have enough place for all the letters and, that they are not to big. And be sure, that you´ve written the words RIGHT and, that there are no spelling mistakes. (I`m speaking from experience...)
Now, you start with the outlines of your letters.

It´s not terrible when you are changing the position of your words a bit now. Now, you can still do that, but when you´ve drawn the outlines, it´s too later. So, decide now, if you want to change the position of your words.

When you have finished the outlines of your letters, you can add some other things to your picture. But remeber, that it should be something, that fit good to your words.
In my picture, I´ve chosen a gun, because it fit good to my words "Guns for Hands". (I know, that somehow sounds strange...)

3.Step:
From that step, you will need some other things.

You will also need:
  • Coloured pencils.
  • Pencils in 7B, 5B, 3B, B, H and H2.
  • Fineliners or markers.
  • Maybe some gel pens.
You will colour your picture now. At first, you start with your character. So, you chose the colors wich your characters has and colour it with coloured pencils. Before you start with the colouring, you should set from wich direction the light is comming. So, you know where the drarkest and brightest parts will be.
When you are drawing a Transformers character, you need to be very careful with the shading. Because it is metal und metal has allways a very difficult shading.

When you have finished the colouring, you should redaw all lines with a fineliner. You can use coloured fineliners in the right color for every part or you simply redraw everything with a black fineliner.
I´ve decided to redraw the character with coloured fineliners.
If you choose coloured fineliners, be sure, that they have the same color as the part witch you want to redraw. For example for the bright blue parts, you also need a bright blue fineliner.
It should look like this then:

4.Step:
Now, you are colouring the letters. At first, you choose your colors but you need to be careful with this. You should be sure, that your colors fit good together. Graffiti is always very colourful but it´s also important, that the colors fit good together.
You are using coloured penicls again for colouring the letters. If you have some gradients of colors in your letters, you need to be sure, that the gradients are very soft without any edges. The colors need to have a good transition.
You can achieve this by not putting so much pressure on the pencil when you are drawing the transition.

After you´ve coloured the letters, you redraw the outlines again. You can use fineliner and markers for this again. But you need to be careful again. Be sure, that the fineliner and markers have the color as the coloured pencil, wich you have used for colouring this part of the letters. You should have fineliner or markers with the matching color for every part of the letters.

You are colouring all leters with the same technique.

G12 by StarKite1

If you have something else in the picture (like I´ve the gun), you are colouring it as well with coloured pencils. But I would advise you redraw the outlines BEFORE you colour it with coloured pencils. Because it´s maybe a bit difficult to see the lines later, when you have already coloured it with pencils.

Your picture should look like this now:

5.Step:
When you have finished everything, you should add something to the background of the letters. Think about something that fit good into the back ground to the style of your letters.
In my picture, I´ve chosen colourful color blobs.
At first, you are drawing the outlines of the blobs (or whatever you have chosen) and then you colour them with the same technique as the letters. But you need to be careful with the color again. Choose a color that fit good to the other colors in your picture.

If you want, you can also redraw the outer lines of the other letters now with some markers. But you should think good about this. When you have used the markers in your picture and you have made a mistake, you are not able to erease it again.

G18 by StarKite1

You can also add something other to the background. But don´t add to much to it. The picture shouldn´t look overcharged.

G20 by StarKite1

You should redraw and colour the background with markers, not with fineliners because fineliner are very thin and for bigger parts, you need something thicker.
And you should also not use too much bright colours in the background, because the focus should be on the scripture. For that reason, I´ve chosen a black marker for the background.

G21 by StarKite1

You can also redraw the outer lines of the character with markers now.

But you shouldn´t overdo it with the outlines.;)
Your picture should look like this now:

6.Step:
As last step, you can colour the white sheet with a grey pencil now, so it looks like wall. If you are doing this, you should draw the corners of the sheet with a darker pencil and the middle with a brighter pencil.

This was the last step and your finished picture looks like this now:

So, we are finish.I am a dummy!
I know, it was a very long tutorial with many steps. But it was neccassery to show every step of the drawing.
I hope, that my tutorial is helping you and I wish you a lot of fun with drawing your graffiti picture.

Until next time, then.Hi!

(PS: Don´t worry, if you are not able to read the letters in the finished picture. It´s always the case, that you can´t read graffiti letters. That means, that the graffiti is good.;))
...draw Graffiti pictures in combination with Transformers characters.

In the last weeks, many people have asked me about my graffiti pictures and how I´m drawing those. But I wasn´t able to describe it without showing them the steps. So, I´ve decided to write an tutorial about this.

And here it is.I am a dummy!

I hope, that I was able to discribe all the steps good enough for you to understand it and, that this tutorial is helping you with your own pictures.

So please enjoy it and let me know, what you think about it.w00t!
Also, I would like to see your pictures wich resulted from my tutorial. Maybe I can give you some tips. So if you would like to, you can send them to me either by note or also by a comment on my page or on this deviation.:)
